Mama Sweet: My daughter has been weathering the holiday chaos and has become a fairly accommodating sidekick. We always start our shopping day with a trip to Starbucks. It's good for both of us! Today, rather than racing out of the sea of laptop computers, my daughter wanted to sit together. She chose our special table and we enjoyed our warm drinks together. My Christmas anxiety was rising up from my belly while Ally was very happy to be given my full attention. So, I told her that we could stay until she counted to 20. This gave her full control over how long we stayed there and allowed me to remain calm. She had the best time showing everyone how she could count to 20 and was ready to leave when she shouted "20!" It really was so sweet!
Mama Sweet: At the end of our day, she was extremely tired and did not want to listen to my directions. I had allowed her to "drive" while I loaded my shopping bags into our car. However, she did not want to get out of the driver's seat. (An early premonition, I know.) So, I decided I would crawl into her car seat. We were both giggling as we role played each other. I encouraged her to tell me to use nice manners and I was sure to call her Mama...and ask for food, and gum, and water, etc. It was hilarious! It was really fun and helpful to bring a better understanding to our relationship. It was silly fun!
Mama Sour: Only a few days until Christmas... my shopping is done. No Sours!
