VALENTINE'S DAY SWEETS

Mama Sweet: Valentine's Day is so much more fun with children. I know it's supposed to be this incredibly romantic day for lovers but I have never really fallen into that category. Now, we make our own Valentines together and frost heart cookies with friends. At our Valentine’s soiree, I served heart crackers with cheese and made a great snack from the Family Fun magazine. I cut mini-bagels in half, covered the entire bagel with cream cheese, added a strawberry jelly dollop to the center and finished the treat with a fresh strawberry cut in half with a "v" cut out at top to resemble a heart. They were darling and all of the children loved them. What a sweet to give my girls this wonderful memory of Valentine's Day. Good luck to their boyfriends growing up to compare to their Sweet Mama's legacy. Am I just setting them up for a lifetime of disappointment? :)

Mama Sour: After months of coughing, we have finally diagnosed my daughter with asthma. I am trying to wrap my head around what that means and find the balance between western and eastern methods of managing this disease. She is currently on albeuterol and steroids until her cough goes away. Suggestions from the eastern world include: More water, flax seed, increase in omega 3s, decrease in omega 6s-processed foods (although I feel like I am cooking from scratch all the time!), more sunshine, more exercise. It is such a sour subject because I feel like I am doing all of the above but will continue to work harder! I realize some things are just out of our control. (I hate not being in control!) I would love to hear any suggestions anyone has to offer on this subject.
